Operation B.O.O.M isn't actually a real mission to mars, set to launch in 2023. We just made this blog for school purposes. Don't be too disappointed, as all the facts on this blog are real, and the link to the website we sent you to submit your applications (http://applicants.mars-one.com/) is an actual website for submitting applications to actually go to mars, it is just Operation B.O.O.M isn't real. Thank you for the 144 (and counting) page views, and if you really do want to go to mars, it would be awesome!
We are sorry for the inconvenience

Travel, What We Are Using To Go To Mars
Mars is far away and to get to Mars we will need
lots of power. Going to Mars you will need a nuclear powered rocket. Nuclear
powered rockets don’t require large fuel tanks and they are way more efficient.
If you’re wondering about
the risk of radiation.
You don’t need to, the radiation
is contained in the fuel rocket
and will not leak out.

Temperature On Mars
As for breathing on mars, no one exactly knows what to do. There are many options out there, but not all of them might work. Here’s one solution: Using computer models, researchers found that a gas called octafluoropropane (C3F8) produced the greatest warming in their study. The gas also worked well when mixed with other gases. Adding this gas so that its concentration in the Martian air was 300 parts per million could spark a runaway greenhouse effect by evaporating the polar ice caps, which are composed of carbon dioxide. That extra CO2- a greenhouse gas itself - would lead to even more melting and warming. This could help thicken the Martian atmosphere and increase atmospheric pressure. Some of the competing alternatives to adding gas to the planet would be to sprinkle sunlight-absorbing dust on the poles to try to melt the ice caps, or putting large mirrors into orbit to reflect sunlight onto the surface. However, the first way is more effective and will take less time. Now temperatures on mars can range between 20 to -153. In the mid-latitudes, the average temperature would be about -50 degrees Celsius with a nighttime minimum of -60 degrees Celsius and a summer midday maximum of about 0 degrees Celsius. A solution to this problem that scientists came up- wearing a heavy suit. Of course, not our best options but scientists are working on experiments and possibilities.

The Cons Of Going To Mars
Going to mars is amazing, but like anything there is cons to it.
-You will not be able to come back to earth
-Most of the things you did on earth will change.
- Space radiation, usually ionizing radiation, can cause cancer, cataract formation, or death
-Mars can be dangerous, even with shelter

Electricity And Shelter
Some people have asked us, well where are we going to get and electricity on mars? Maybe you’ve asked this too but we’re here to explain just that. The answer, NASA has designed a hybrid wind-solar system that could one land on mars. The system was designed so that it can produce energy in the days of light and during huge dust storms that are frequent on mars, it’s kind of like those systems in the arctic and in some parts of alaska. However, if that system fails, and the mission to live on mars succeeds, then over the years, we can actually slowly make a nuclear plant, though it would take a long time. Now, for shelter wise, we have two options, one to simply live underground, once we find out if it’s safe, or two live in mobile bases sent to mars. We don’t exactly know which way we’re going to chose, but thanks to our future operation B.O.O.M team, hopefully we can find out.
